Inspired by her parents’ refugee journey, Unpromised Land explores the complicated realities of migration and displacement. The song examines the discrepancy between the promise of a new beginning and the lived experience of arriving in a country where newcomers are often expected to assimilate, remain grateful, and stay silent.
Moving beyond a personal family story, the song engages with broader questions of migration and national identity, asking who gets to define what it means to belong.
